BAGEL BRUNCH BOARD

Sunday's are my favourite day of the week. The day we are supposed to rest, or at least that was how it was when I was young. This 24/7 open for business life we live today really takes away from the lazy Sunday morning routine.

Brunch is the meal I look forward to each week. I love to share with my family taking it slow. I try to change up the menu each weekend to keep everyone excited about what could come next. Sometimes it is lack lustre but there is always food on the table. And for that alone, I am grateful.

Some weekends, especially since the lockdown started I began baking. Bagels are one of the recipes I love to make, because they double over for meal prep for the week and are easy to make.

Below are some tips to making a Brunch Board (in this case a Bagel Brunch Board).

Bagels, fresh fruit, honey and cheese.
Treat your family to fresh baked bagels, fruit and more!

BAGEL BRUNCH GRAZING SPREAD

PICK YOUR BOARD/ PLATTER

1. The board should reflect a generous space to allow your guests the ability to graze the board. I like to determine what the largest items I would be putting on the board will be and going from there.
2. It is easier to cluster items than it is to make a very large board feel full. slicing the bagels can allow you to make a board look fuller by separating them slightly.

USE WHOLE FRUITS

3. I love to use whole fruits (clementines, bananas or strawberries for example). Items not eaten can easily be placed back into the fridge or fruit bowl and used for meals in the week. I believe offering choice allows my family to make choices to eat what they will and reduce food waste.
4. Break grapes into smaller clusters. Did you know that breaking the grapes off the vine causes them to ripen faster? However a vine with 5-10 grapes is more likely to be taken and eaten by someone or they can snap off a few as they like opposed to fighting with the big cluster.

USE COLOUR

5.  The eye and brain are drawn to vibrant things. Make the board speak in colour. You can split up clusters (note grapes are in several areas of the board) to create a visually appealing display.
Cubed cream cheese.
Cut cream cheese into 1 tbsp sized portions for serving.

PERSONAL PORTIONS

6. Cutting up butter or cream cheese into 1" cubes allows for you company to take a portion. This also reduces contamination of getting those bread crumbs into the butter (no one wants that!).

USE OF SPACE

7. As stated before, slicing the bagels can offer the ability to make a bagel appear to take up more space and make the board feel fuller. Likewise you can also stand them up to take up less space.
8. Use filler. Flowers, spinach, greens or herbs, garnishes, or more whole fruit can give the appearance of a fuller board.

However you share your meals, do it with love.
